You asked questions. I answered them all. Here we go!
What is your job?
I work as an influencer and blogger and I also have a part-time job at a smoothie bar in my hometown.
What are your favourite flowers?
I am fascinated by sunflowers because they can get so huge but I love all kinds of flowers equally.
Where do you take your positive energy from?
Affirmations, prayers, awareness and most importantly: Gratitude. It takes a while to retrain your mind to be aware of all your thoughts but it’s worth the effort. Your thoughts create your reality so you want to make sure to manifest only positive things in your life. Don’t despair if you catch yourself thinking negatively sometimes. We were domesticated to judge and hate when we were very little so it requires large amounts of discipline and consciousness to reprogram ourselves to see the positive in everything or at least accept everything.
Where would you like to live one day? What country?
I would like to have two homes. One in Germany (because my parents live here and I want to take care of them when they get older) and a winter home somewhere on the other side of the globe. I have yet to find out where this other place will be.
What is your favourite book?
How Not To Die by Dr. Greger. I have a blog post about this book.
Did you grow up with this lifestyle or did you make a choice to live this way? Do you have any tips on getting started?
I literally grew up on dairy products. I once fainted in church because I refused to drink anything other than milk or hot chocolate (milk + cacao + sugar). Later I found out my problem was not that I didn’t like water in general but I couldn’t drink the sparkling water my parents were drinking. They still eat bread, butter, dairy and meat almost 3 times a day. So you could say I technically didn’t grow up with a healthy lifestyle. I made the choice to go vegan when I properly informed myself 3 years ago. Honestly, I don’t understand how people find out about the health benefits (and ethical aspects!) of a plant-based lifestyle and do NOT go vegan afterward. It simply is the most logical decision I have ever made.
My best tip? Just go vegan for a month. Try it. You can still go back to your old eating habits but most likely you won’t. Make it an experiment. 🙂
What are your top 3 learnings of the past 3 months?
- If you want to manifest something, act as if it has already happened.
- Everybody is in your life for a reason so you should cherish their presence and stay alert to receive valuable lessons and information that helps you with your current challenges. Other people are your greatest teachers. And nature, but nature doesn’t speak so clearly.
- What you do right before sleep enormously effects your next day. Therefore I try to turn off my phone at least 30 minutes before sleep and read an inspirational book before sleep. At the moment I am reading this book.
Are you planning to write another e-book?
Not at the moment but next year I might.
What are your upcoming plans regarding blogging and social media?
I will take my blogging to the next level. I work with an agency that helps me improve my front end, back end and everything else as I’m not an IT nerd at all. I have great respect for bloggers who do everything themselves.
On Instagram, I am planning to integrate more personal & travel posts and move away from food slowly (there will still be food posts, don’t worry). I love cooking but I believe I have other strengths as well. There is so much healthy vegan foodporn on Instagram already. If you truly want to stand out, you have to expose your whole personality and publicly embody the values you believe in. Plus, when I travel there won’t be so much time for cooking anymore. The future will be exciting!
How do you earn your income?
I work at a smoothie bar once a week. The rest of my income comes from influencer activities such as sponsored posts, recipe development, food photography, and events. Watch this video to learn more about how to earn money on Instagram.
What is your daily routine?
I wake up and recap my dream. Sometimes I write down my dream if it was particularly crazy or contained strong symbols. I think about the exciting events on that day and feel gratitude for my life. Then I check WhatsApp and Instagram shortly. As soon as I feel mentally clear, I go to the bathroom and rinse my face and mouth, then I brush my teeth and scrape my tongue. I take my B12 and go back to my room where I get dressed and drink some water. I do 40 jumping jacks or 80 jumps to awaken my lymphatic system (thank you so much Michi for the tip) and then I either go to the kitchen to grab some more water/tea or I go straight to my laptop to check emails and plan out the day. When I have done the first few things on my priority list, I go to the gym or take a walk. After a short workout, I take a shower before I break the fast with fruit. After my first small fruit mono-meal, I make porridge or nicecream. The rest of the day I work on my laptop or try out new recipes. I usually work until late. Right now it’s 10:30 pm and I am writing this blog post. Guess you could call this work as well because all my blogging activities indirectly contribute to my living.
What are your daily health rituals?
I try to walk at least 10k steps every day. My Fitbit tells me to walk at least 250 steps an hour so I always get up and take breaks from desk work every hour. Apart from that, I do some kind of stretching or yoga every day. I guess you could call healthy eating and drinking frequently health rituals as well. Further to that, I say a gratitude prayer every night and write a journal every now and then.
What is your workout routine?
I go to the gym for an hour three times a week and on the other 4 days I either go for a walk, do some yoga, go cycling or running. Don’t underestimate brisk walks! They contribute to overall fitness and health just as much as gym workouts. Occasionally there are days where I don’t leave the house at all but they are rare as I have learned through experience how much better I feel if I move regularly.
If you had to eat one animal product, which would you choose?
Fish. If I were in an exquisite restaurant in the middle of Tokyo and someone offered me some kind of fancy sashimi dish I don’t think I could refuse.
Do you think veganism is appropriate for a 13-year-old teenager?
I believe that a vegan diet is the best diet for all human beings.
What helps you get through bad days?
To feel and accept the emotions. Feel them, embrace them, be grateful for the experience, and then let them go.
When and what was your biggest turning point for starting your blog/business?
I guess there was no real “starting point” as everything happened so organically. I do remember one key event though. When I finished my bachelor in February 2017, a company I applied at turned me down because they feared I could not devote all of my energy into the job because I was already so deeply involved and passionate about my job as an influencer. That made me realise no job was better for me than what I was currently doing so I started putting all my time and energy into my online business.
Did you go to university and what did you study?
I studied International Business Management.
What is your favourite food?
I love all kinds of fruit and thick, creamy green smoothies. My favourite fruits are all sweet fruits.
Where does your hippie attitude come from?
Guess I was born this way and as my true self came forth, so did my attitude and personality.
Do you believe in old souls?
I believe that time only exists in the physical world and that all souls are eternal.
What’s your go to vegan snack?
Fruit, especially medjool dates or raw protein bars.
Do you have any tips for people who have lost their period since going vegan?
Get your hormone levels tested at your local doctor. Also do a blood test and check with him. Find a doctor that is pro veganism, otherwise he or she will always tell you to eat animal products because doctors don’t know much about nutrition. Unfortunately, I’m not experienced with this topic so I can’t give better advice here.
What are your life goals?
To live somewhere I never have to freeze. I’m freezing all the time so that would be life goals haha
How important are friends and family to you?
I love my family and they mean everything to me. I also love my friends and would do anything for them but I have made a few unlucky experiences so I don’t have any long-term friends anymore. Most of my friends came into my life in the last 2-3 years.
How do you coordinate your life? Do you have routines / do you plan your days?
I have a little planner where I write down appointments and to do’s. I always take care of the prioritized items first. I am not a very organized person by nature but it helps to know other people rely on your work.
How did you become a food blogger? How does this influence your daily life?
I just started posting the food I eat and suddenly I was part of an amazing vegan community! Being a blogger hugely influences my daily life! (Just like any other job I guess…) I spend so much time in the kitchen and I need to plan my meals according to cooperations I do with companies. Someone needs to eat all that food (always me) so I have to sometimes “eat my work” 🙂 Further to that, there are no weekends for me. All week days are the same and sometimes Sundays are my most productive days of the week.
Are you planning to go on a long journey?
I’ve been planning that for so long but now I’ve spontaneously decided to study for another 2 years so … no, unfortunately not at the moment.
How did you start your account and how did you get so many followers?
I started Instagram as a personal account and gained followers rapidly when I started posting beautiful vegan food. People LOVE naturally beautiful food aka fruit and vegetables – they’re so aesthetically pleasing and not a matter of taste. Fruits and veggies ARE appealing to every human being on the planet. Want to gain followers rapidly? Post a lot of bright colourful food. Rice, meat, dairy, cheese, and bread are not pretty. Post fruit and veggies. People are CRAZY about healthy food. Just kidding haha you have to also put out quality content and do what your heart tells you to do. Make sure your pictures and captions have a great value and be patient. I have lots of other tips in this YouTube video.
Can you live from Instagram?
At the moment I generate most of my income via Instagram but I don’t pay for rent (I live with my parents) and companies send me so much food that my overall expenses are very low. I don’t go out much and I don’t buy new clothes very often. Most of my money goes into transport (fuel, train tickets) and fresh produce. Oh, and food props & photography equipment. ?
How many hours do you spend on Instagram every day?
2-3 hours on average. If you go to settings on your iPhone, then select Battery, then scroll down to Battery Usage and tap on the first item you will see how many hours you spent on screen in that particular app in the last 24 hours. That’s how I see I actually spend between 2 and 2.5 hours a day on Instagram.
Where will you move to if you move out from home one day?
Düsseldorf. I am going to study there from October this year. I can’t wait to finally have my own place again!
Do you ever want to have kids?
Maybe. I’m still single at the age of 23 so I don’t think I’ll get pregnant soon. 😀
Does your partner have to be vegan?
I thought about this a while ago and came to the conclusion I wouldn’t mind unless he’s not open towards veganism. I mean you can always turn someone vegan if he/she is open-minded… 🙂
What do you like most about yourself?
My eye-colour ? and my optimistic attitude.
Do you have a big dream?
I want to reach 1 million people with my positive messages.
What face products do you use?
I only use skin products occasionally in summer. In winter I use the day & night cream by Speick. Sometimes I rinse my face with salt water. To make it, I simply mix a little sea salt into a cup of water or rub the sea salt on my skin and wash it off.
How much do you spend on food on a weekly basis?
That’s hard to tell because I live with my parents and they often go grocery shopping together with me. When I lived by myself I always spent at least 50€ per week. In my opinion, food is the only thing you should NEVER save money on. Food is medicine and your health is your most important good.
How do you edit your photos?
I use Lightroom. I created my own presets and adjust the colours in every picture individually. I recommend these presets by Blackwhitevivid to begin with. They helped me a lot to find my own style and to understand the different Lightroom settings better.
